Remember back in lockdown when we had cravings, we booked a delivery for it?
That’s one of the solutions Abaca Group came up with back in the pandemic, and decided to build an e-commerce store. And that’s how Abaca Eats was born.
The Abaca Group, a hospitality group behind one of Cebu’s favorite restaurants, wanted to make ordering for their customers easier online. This was when physical restaurants were closed down. Abaca needed help in creating an e-commerce web app, and this is where Symph came in.
In just ____ months, we built the e-commerce store for Abaca Eats — a virtual food hall where you can get all sorts of amazing food from all of Abaca's restaurant brands and new cuisine offerings. This is how the Abaca Group thrived during the lockdown.
An overview of the Abaca Eats experience
What did Abaca and Symph do together?
With restaurants and other non-essential stores shut down due to the pandemic, Abaca Group had to find a new way to sell their products. Abaca already had an existing relationship with Symph, so we were game to build their e-commerce store.
We had a lot of back and forth emails and calls with Abaca to understand their vision. The goal was to fully penetrate the online marketplace and provide customers with the ease of ordering their different food delicacies.
We built Abaca Eats using Shopify Liquid and Javascript. Here is how we made Abaca Eats possible:
1. Kickoff the design phase (then development)
Through many emails and calls, we sent our designs for approval, got feedback, and made changes before we brought the designs to life (through coding)
2. Development and Shopify integration
We implemented the designs we made into a fully functional app through Shopify.
3. Launched!
After ___ months, we launched Abaca Eats live! Customers were able to order their Abaca favorites anywhere they were.
Here are the key features we launched:
1. Easy-to-made ordering: Customers have the ability to make special requests or modify orders for food allergies and preferences if there is.
2. Loyalty Program: The feedback system helps build a relationship between customers and the brand.
3. Contests and Promotions: The more you order, the more you earn on Abaca Eats. You can also earn free items when you reach certain spending milestones, and existing members receive surprises too!
How did we accomplish all of this remotely?
- Constant communication in Whatsapp
📝 TLDR;
- We made UI/UX designs for the e-commerce platform
- We built Abaca Eats from scratch by developing it via Shopify
- Once Abaca Eats was launched, we added new features and did fixes on the platform whenever Abaca needed it.
With Abaca restaurants being open for a long time now, customers can still order their Abaca favorites if they’re in the mood for online ordering.
